Gretchen S. Bastian, age 80, of Hinckley, Il passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at her home. She was born on May 30, 1928 in Aurora, Il the daughter of Ace K. and Alta S. (Weber) Clark. Gretchen was united in marriage on September 10, 1950 to Mr. Gene Bastian and they spent the next 29 happy years together until his passing on December 24, 1979. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. Mrs. Bastian was a longtime and active member of the Hinckley First United Methodist Church in Hinckley, Il. Gretchen and her husband, Gene, were former owners of the Hinckley Airport. She was for many years a Real Estate Broker in the area until her retirement. Gretchen was then employed for several years by the Little Traveler in Geneva, Il. She was a former member of the Hinckley Public Library Board, the Monmouth College Alumni Boqrd, and the Waubonsee Community College Foundation Board. Gretchen was also a member of the Hinckley Women's Club and Kappa Delta Sorority. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling. She is survived by her children, Amie Carey of Hinckley, Il, Greta (Bruce) Martin of Aurora, Il, Keith (Lori) Bastian of Hinckley, Il, and Scott (Lisa) Bastian of Warrenville, Il; her grandchildren, Allison (Bryan) Pickert of Hinckley, Il, Grant Carey of Chicago, Il, Sara Martin of Aurora, Il, Max Martin of Aurora, Il, Kelsey and Bret Bastian of Hinckley, Il, and Cooper, Ben, and Campbell Bastian of Warrenville, Il; her sister, Nancy Wright of Washington, Il; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ace and Alta (Weber) Clark; and her husband, Gene Bastian. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Hinckley First United Methodist Church, 801 N. Sycamore St., Hinckley, Il with Pastor Michael Mann, officiating. Interment will be private. Friends may visit from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel, 41 N. Maple St., Hinckley, Il. Memorials in Gretchen's name may be directed to the Hinckley First United Methodist Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society, 143 1st Street #100, Batqavia, Il 60510.
