The funeral will be held Dec. 3 for LaMerle Edgar Hodges of Eugene, who died Nov. 27 of liver cancer. He was 71.

Hodges was born April 23, 1934, in Washington, Kan., to Jesse and Grace Gauby Hodges. He married Arlene Westlake on Oct. 25, 1957.

He moved to Lane County in 1940 and served in the Navy from 1954 to 1958 in the Philippines. He worked as a custodian for Willamette Christian School and as a carpenter.

Hodges enjoyed reading, writing western novels, gardening and travel. He belonged to Willamette Christian Center. He previously lived in Nebraska, The Dalles and Creswell.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Christie Brocksmith of Eugene; a son, Aric of Orangevale, Calif.; three brothers, Marion of Las Vegas, Ron of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Roy of Eugene; a sister, Sheila Corrion of Eugene; six grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene.

Saturday's funeral will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Neighborhood Assembly of God Church, for missions.
