George Franklin Herring, Jr., 92, of Hampstead, passed away on December 23, 2008.

He was born on June 13, 1916 in Rocky Mount, NC to the late Dr. G. F. Herring, Sr. and Bessie Kornegay Herring of Mt. Olive, NC.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Terrell Herring. He is survived by one son, G.F. Herring III of Weaverville, NC; three daughters, Rebecca Jean Herring Smith, of Wilmington, NC, Jane Herring Ives and husband, Glenn of Hampstead and Mary Elizabeth Herring Monteith and husband Alan, of Hampstead, NC; eight grandchildren, Eddie and Tommy Roderick, Marcie Romano, Holli Bradstreet, Heather Hill, Thad King, Rachael Lear and Lindsey Ives; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Dick was a member of Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church and retired from CSX, where he was a lifelong member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC.
