William Pea was born to Daniel Pea and Elizabeth Lett Pea, he was born in Indiana. His father moved to Moultrie co. IL

In 1850 he married Sophia Ann Wade, the 1850 census of Moultrie county, states he was married within the year.

Sophia's mother had passed and her two brothers were living with them. After the passing of her grandparent. Joseph and Sophia Brown Newlan, the William Pea family moved to Grundy co., Mo., they later moved to Putnam co, Mo. They are also recorded in Appanoose co, Iowa. In 1872 they sold their land in Putnam co and moved to Bates co. Mo. They are on the 1873 tax list, which were to have been paid in 1874.

Paulina Pea Mark stated her family moved from near Appleton city after the death of her father, coming to Ottumwa, Coffey co., Kansas in a covered wagon, bringing livestock and children.

Upon arriving in Kansas, Sophia and her oldest son Nathan homsteaded on 80 acres along Kennedy creek. The land they bought was bought from the U.S. Government and sold to Sylvester Pea, who sold to his nephew Nathan Pea, oldest son of William and Sophia. They lived in Coffey co., KS until March 17, 1889, when they left for Kelso, WA

I do not know where he is buried in Bates county but Rockville, is close to Appleton city and was know for coal mining.

When they were in Missouri they were near Mendota, which was also known for coal mining.
