Obituary from Helena's Independent Record 11/20/2005:

Harry Hugh Hoffman, age 75, passed away Nov. 17, 2005, in the loving arms of his family at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Harry was born May 12, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Harry and Ann (Hendricks). He enlisted in the Navy August 3, 1948, and served in the Korean War on the ship U.S.S. Philippine Sea out of Alameda, Calif., as a 1st Division gunners mate. After returning from the war he married Hazel Tucker and of that union two children were born. They later divorced.

In 1959 while attending a dance, Harry met the love of his life, Geneva May Ott. On August 30, 1960, they pledged their vows to one another. Harry adopted her son and they united their families and added two more sons to make their family complete.

Harry began his early career delivering newspapers on his horse — which led him into sales. Harry began his lifelong passion breaking horses as a working cowboy along with rodeo in the RCA, this produced a lifetime friendship with Lucky Gravette. A career in insurance sales eventually allowed him to follow his icons Will James and Charlie Russell to Montana.

In 1990 he retired from Allstate Insurance, which allowed him to spend more time “roping and riding.” There was nothing he enjoyed more than getting a call from his buddy, Bill Williams, to work cattle. Harry was a member of the East Helena Rodeo association as well as a member of the Josephine Heppner Chapter #89 of Eastern Star and a member of the Ottawa Lodge #51 of Marysville.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 fabulous years, Geneva Hoffman; brother, Fred Kennedy and Anne of Colorado; sister, Margie Munshawer of Ohio; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Harold Ott and wife, Juanita, of Oklahoma and Carroll Ott of California; Harry’s five children: son, Jim Hoffman and Betty; daughter, Jane Diana and husband, Robert Diana; son, Lou Hoffman and wife, Judy; son, Rory Hoffman and wife, Deanna; son, Harry R. Hoffman and wife Kelly, also 10 grandchildren, Michelle and Gary Diana, Kathy Druckhammer and husband, Dennis; granddaughter, Star; grandsons, Jason, Dusty, Trevin, Spencer, Cooper and Callahan and four great-grandchildren.

Cremation services have taken place. A tribute to Harry’s life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at Fort Harrison. A reception will follow at the VFW furnished by the E. Helena Rodeo Association. Geneva and family wish to acknowledge and express their gratitude for the care, comfort and many kindnesses extended to them and to Harry over the past months. Harry loved life and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials sent to: Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital, c/o Algeria Shrine Transportation Fund, P.O. Box 1176 Helena, MT 59624 or The Lewis & Clark Humane Society, P.O. Box 4455, Helena, MT 59604. Funeral services have been entrusted to Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home.
