Vernon Pierce Rickerson, 84, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family on January 31, 2014 at 4:15p.m. Vernon was a veteran of the U. S. Navy as a Torpedoman Second Class on the U. S. S. Bristol DD-857. He retired as an Executive Supervisor from Brown and Root overseas division. He was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church, Slidell, was a member and captain of the Jerusalem Dune Buggy Unit and a Worshipful Master of the Masonic Dante Lodge #174.

He was born on July 28, 1929 in Augusta, GA to his late parents Edward "Doc" and Malvie Rickerson.

Vernon was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather, as well a a step-grandfather and step-great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Bettie Joyce Tapley Rickerson, infant son Robert Vernon Rickerson, son Vernon (Chip) Pierce Rickerson, Jr., grandson Kenneth Raymond Stevens, granddaughter Tanya Elizbeth Woodall Standiford, daughter Sharon Laverne Rickerson Woodall Sullivan, and three brothers William, Otis and Julian Rickerson. He is survived by his devoted and loving wwiffe of 21 years Annabelle Rickerson, daughter Theresa Ann Shields and husband Ted, brother Thomas Allen Rickerson and wife Marie, two sisters Linda AAllen and Louise Heaton of Tampa, FL, two step sons L. J. Dimaio and JJ and Nicholas Joseph Dimaio and wife Lena. He was also survived by 5 grandchildren Claude A. Stevens, Jr., Elmer Arthur Stevens, Vernon Charles Shields, Ted Lynn Shields, Thomas Randall Woodall, four step-grandchildren Gena Dimaio Knaps, Scott Wayne Dimaio, Mike Shields, Debbie Shields Pope, Laurie Shields Middlebrooks, Stacy Shields Corcoran, 6 great grandchildren and 8 step-great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks and appreciation to all members of the Trinity Family for their love and devoted care of Vernon, especially C.C., our loving neighbors and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, February 6th. Vernon will be laid to rest in
St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
