"Death of Mrs. Abrams"
After months of suffering from a complication of diseases, principal of which was kidney trouble, Mrs. Amanda R. Abrams died at her home in this borough, Wednesday night of last week, May 3rd, aged 75 years and 23 days. Her remains were interred in the Bloomfield cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. F. T. Wheeler. The funeral was largely attended.
Mrs. Abrams was a daughter of Daniel and Susan Rowe, and was born near Emmittsburg, Maryland, April 10, 1824. She was married to Joseph Abrams, a merchant of Emmittsburg, on the 2nd of April, 1845. They came to Perry county in 1851 and kept a store in Landisburg until 1860, when they removed to Womelsdorf, Berks county. Two years after, in 1862, they returned to Perry and Mr. Abrams kept store in this borough until January, 1874, when he retired from business. One month later he died. Mrs. Abrams continued her residence here until the time of her death.
She was the mother of seven children, three of whom are dead, namely: Ida V. Abrams, Oscar R. Abrams and Charles J. Abrams. Her surviving children are: Mrs. Alice Conner, of Indianapolis, Ind., widow of the late William M. Conner; Mrs. Amanda F. White, of Pauline, Nebraska, wife of Wesley M. White; and Misses Annie B. and Laura E. Abrams, of this place. A brother and sister of Mrs. Abrams also survive. They are: Nathaniel Rowe, of Emmittsburg, Md., and Mrs. Anna Eliza Rice, of Ickesburg, this county, widow of the late Samuel L. Rice.
Mrs. Abrams was a good, Christian woman and a consistent member of the Lutheran church, in which she was a great worker. She was a kind, affectionate mother and was beloved by all who knew her.
