Shirley Ann (Shiflett) Brewer, 76, passed away peacefully after a sudden brief illness on November 7, 2013 in Salina, Kansas while traveling home to Arvada. Shirley was born August 6, 1937 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Erbert and Velma Shiflett. She graduated from Wewoka High School and attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. She graduated with a degree in business. She was married to Don Delano Brewer on December 22, 1958. Shirley was a loving mother and homemaker when her children were young. Later she worked at H & R Block for more than ten years. She continued using her love of numbers and helping others by preparing taxes until her passing. Through preplanning she was able to be an organ/tissue donor. An avid genealogist, Shirley spent hours researching and traveling to learn about her ancestry. She was a registered member of the Cherokee Nation and a member of Colorado Cherokee Circle. She was a life-long active member of her church, most recently attending the First United Church of Arvada (UCC) while also maintaining her membership at Central Christian Church in Denver. She and Don loved to travel and especially enjoyed their many visits to Disneyland and Walt Disney World as well as visiting family and friends. Shirley is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Don, and two children: Don Delano Brewer II and Deirdre Diane Brewer, both of Arvada. She is also survived by one sister, Sharon, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service in celebration of Shirley's life will be on Saturday, November 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Christian Church, 3690 Cherry Creek South Drive, Denver, CO 80209. Shirley and Don shared a passion for caring for others, particularly children. In lieu of flowers, Shirley requested donations be made to the Tennyson Center for Children, 2950 Tennyson Street, Denver, CO 80212 for the Shirley and Don Brewer Continuing Education Endowment Fund.
