Gertrude Cliff graduated from Radcliffe College magna cum laude in 1902. She married Thomas Melville Vinson, who she first noticed doing all sorts of skating tricks as she skated up the Charles River, later they introduced to each other at the Cambridge Skating Club. After they married, they settled in Winchester, a town 20 miles northwest from Boston. In 1911, Tom won his last skating competition and Gertrude gave birth to their only child, Maribel Yerxa Vinson on Oct. 12, 1911. Her two granddaughters, Maribel Vinson Owen and Laurence Rochon Owen and their mother (her daughter) were members of the US Figure Skating Team that was killed on Feb. 15, 1961. Maribel Y. Owen was a figure skating coach.
