Thomas O. Rexrode, age 70, died suddenly Friday, October 11, 2013, at his home in Governor's Land in Williamsburg, Va., with his wife, Susan, at his side.
He was born June 29, 1943, in Detroit, Mich., the son of James and Ona Rexrode. He graduated from high school in Centreville, Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University, with a degree in Mortuary Science in 1964. Later, he completed a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
He was a United States Army officer for 27 years retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served his country with honor, receiving two Bronze Stars and a Legion of Merit, and served in both the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War. He was also stationed in Germany, Saudi Arabia and stateside. Upon his retirement from the Army, he served as the Director of the National Foundation for Mortuary Care and assisted in the aftermath of many disasters including the Oklahoma City bombing. Finally, he was a real estate agent in Williamsburg for 10 years.
