Dorothy Louise Hines Gee of Cross City passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011, at the Cross City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center at eighty-nine years of age. Dot was born in Carbur, Taylor County, Florida, on November 7, 1921 to Francis Joseph Hines and Willow Smith Hines (Fisher). After losing her parents at an early age, she lived with her aunt, Annie G. Mangum of Salem. She graduated from Taylor County High School. Mrs. Gee performed many roles in her life. These roles included wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as an employee of the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office, the Dixie County Schools, the Dixie County Advocate, the Dixie County State Bank, the town of Cross City, and the State of Florida.She was a faithful member of the Cross City First United Methodist Church. In previous years, she participated in the Steinhatchee Garden Club, the Cross City Woman’s Club, the Red Hats, a square dancing group, and was a volunteer at the Senior Center. NASCAR lost a dedicated fan. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gee was preceded in death by her husband, Clements Gee; a great-grandson, James De Witt Ross; her brothers, Frances “Buster” Hines and Sidney Hines; and her sisters, Blanche Roberts and Catherine Ramella.
She is survived by a son, Joseph Gee (JoAnn) of Cross City; a daughter, Betty Jean Ross (Jim) of Tallahassee; a grandson, Christopher B. Ross (Sandra) of Dacula, GA; granddaughters, Jillian Gee and Joaney McKinnon (Caesar) of Cross City, and Jessyca Jackson of Trenton; eleven great-grandchildren; caregiver and friend, Imogene Nichols; as well as many, many friends.
