Texanna Elizabeth Smith was born June 12,1846.She was the second born daughter of,Daniel "Drew" Smith (1820-?)and Lucretia Ann McDonald(1825-1903)Texanna's two siblings were as follows..

2)Roxie Ann Lee Smith b Jul 6,1848,d Sep 26 1868

When,Texanna and her sisters,Naomi and Roxie Ann were young children they witnessed "The Falling Of The Stars".Texanna and her sister,Naomi would later tell the story about when they were with their parents,Drew Smith and Lucretia Ann McDonald Smith in Opelika Alabama where they had moved for a few years.While living in Alabama the family witnessed "The Falling Of The Stars" which they described as a frighting event from their childhood.Their account goes like this: "The sky turned black as night,the chickens went to roost and the stars fell!!"

Later they moved to Thomaston,in Upson County Georgia.After living here awhile they moved to Covington,Georgia,then eventually moved back to Macon,Georgia.

Family legend says that Texanna's father,Drew Smith left for California to dig for gold and never returned.

Because of this in about 1856 ,Texanna's mother the widow, Mrs Lucretia Ann McDonald Smith married second to,Samuel Robinson(1814-1862).Samuel and Lucretia had the following two children..(half siblings of,Texanna Elizabeth Smth-subject of this bio)

2)Charlotte Viola Robinson b Nov 7,1861,d Mar 2,1901 m James Madison Bassett (1870-1949)

Texanna Elizabeth Smith married first to,Lee Smith and had the following three children

1)Florence Virginia Smith b Jun 17,1876,d Aug 5,1934

2)Rosa Pauline Smith b Aug 21,1878.d Aug 28,1886

3)Clifford Claude Smith b Dec 14 ,1881,Jul 7,1938

Sometime between 1881 and 1888 her first husband,Lee Smith died.

In Macon,Bibb County,Georgia on Sep 10,1889 the widow Mrs Texanna Elizabeth Smith married second to,Benjamin A Bassset .Benjamin was born in Nov of 1873.He was the son of,George W Bassett (1841-1918)and Mary "Mollie" Glozier(1846-?)

Texanna and Benjamin had the following two children..

1)Susan Viola Bassett b 1900,d Sep 27,1910

2)Mary Willie Bassett b 1901,d Jun 20,1907

Texanna lived well into her 90's when she died on Jan 16,1940.The posted picture was taken right before her death in 1940 and shows her at age 93 holding her dog "Smith". Her husband Ben had preceded her in death by 32 years.
