On February 6, 1934 Bertille was united in marriage with Leo L. Thielen at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. They farmed near Templeton a few years and in 1940 settled on a farm south of Manning. Bertille and Leo were blessed with four children. Bertille was a home maker, but also helped with the farm work.
Bertille was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning. She was a charter member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Our Lady of Fatima #1492 and the Altar and Rosary Society and held offices in both. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, her flowers, especially roses and fancy work. Over the years she also enjoyed dancing. Leo died in 2000 and Bertille continued to live at home with her son Melvin until 2004, when she became a resident of the Manning Plaza. She participated in many activities there and especially enjoyed playing Bingo. After many years of good health at the Plaza her health eventually started to fail. She died there on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the age of 103 years, 2 months and 13 days.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Leo Thielen; four sisters Monica Reinart, in infancy, Gladys Langel (Adolph), Mary Buckholz (Wilber 'Bud') and Genevieve Gehling (Lawrence) and sisters in law Loretta Kommes (John), Anna Langel (Henry) and Irene Lutwitze (Lawrence).
