Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. A track and field runner, he won the 400 meters at the 1955 Pan-American Games, where he set a new world record of 45.4 seconds. At the 1956 United States Olympic trials, he broke his own record in 1956 (45.2 seconds). At the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia, he won the gold medal as the second leg in the first-place American 4x400 meter relay team. After the Olympics, he attended Manhattan College and finished his degree in business administration, continuing then to earn a master's degree from Teacher's College at Columbia University. He became a high school teacher, coach and eventually administrator at New Rochelle High School in New York. He was also a dean at Manhattan College and an assistant professor at Queensborough Community College. He was formerly director of Westchester County's Equal Employment Opportunity unit.
