Helen Martha Mills passed away Thursday, Jan 16, 2014. Helen was born in Hialeah, FL on March 21, 1927. She grew up in Miami where her parents raised and trained Greyhound racing dogs. It was in her youth when Helen began her life long love for training and showing of horses.
As a young woman she met Harold Mills, her husband of 67 years. Together the two of them built their life which involved growing their cattle farm and rodeo competitions on the weekends. Harold competed in calf roping while Helen mastered trick riding and barrel racing.
She was active in the First Baptist Church of Chiefland FL where she taught Sunday School for nearly 40 years. Her interest included horse riding, gardening, working cattle and raising orphan calves.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Mills of Chiefland; her sons, Lee Mills and Lyn Mills, both of Chiefland. Her many blessings include 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be Sunday, Jan 19, 2014 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Chiefland with Rev. Gordon Keller and Tommy Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at Chiefland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sat night, Jan 18 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
