He was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Charles and Marie (Jones) Simms. On May 19, 1946, he was united in marriage to Margaret A. Brown in Davenport. Marion retired in 1987 from the Davenport school system where he had been employed for 18 years. He formerly was employed at the former Peter Pan Bakery in Davenport for 29 years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. His family was the joy of his life and those left to honor him include his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret, whom he affectionately called his "Little Bride"; his sons, Jerry Simms, of Blue Grass, Iowa, Garry Simms, of Davenport, and Chuck Simms, of Hiawatha, Iowa; his grandchildren, Krystal Simms, of Davenport, Marie Simms, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Austin Simms, of Davenport, Deena Eisenbacher, of Blue Grass, and Dave Vasold, and his wife, Michelle, of Davenport; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Beulah Mildren, of Davenport; and his brothers, Carl Simms, and his wife, Nancy, of Leesburg, Fla., and Vernon Simms, and his wife, Sylvia, of Geneseo, Ill. Marion was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Simms, and by his infant son, Richard.
