Passed away at home 11/9/05 after a courageous battle with cancer. Survived by his loving & caring wife Kathy; and children. A graduate of the U of MN School of Architecture; he founded Birkeland Architects Inc., and worked for over 40 years primarily designing schools and churches. His work reflected his innate ability for distinction in design, functionality, and advocacy for the underprivileged. He served on the planning commission and was a building code advisor in Hopkins, MN; chaired the Development Corp. of Buffalo, MN; State Job Training board member; Chairman of the Private Industry Council, 12 Counties, Area 5; Housing and Redevelopment Authority of Hastings member 11 years; Buffalo & Hastings Rotary Club member for 25+ years. Harold was a loving, active participant in his family, rarely missing an event, and often holding the title of "Coach". He enjoyed the outdoors and was content to quietly revel in its grandeur. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
