Zola was the son of John Henry Short (a twin) and Mary McNiece Braswell Short.
He married Artie Missie George and had two children:
1. George Olsson Short - 1920-2003, and
2. Billy Braswell Short - 1922-1996
Artie died in 1925 and Zola married Artie's older sister, Goldie Alphy George. They also had two children:
1. Bobby Lee Short - 1926-2012, and
2. Betty LaNelle Short - 1928-2001
Zola is buried between Artie and Goldie.
