Raul was born in Juarez, Mexico and migrated to the United States with his mother and brother and lived in the El Paso area.
He enlisted in the Marines 5 July 1966, at a El Paso Recruiting Office.
When Raul arrived in Vietnam ne was assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. The battalion was participating in Operation Union with Fox Company operating in the vicinity of Binh Son (1), when the Marines encountered hostile forces. Raul died as a result of gunshot wounds to the chest and back from hostile rifle fire.

Survived by his mother; Angelina Bautista Perez and his brother; Jose Gomez, both of 2920 Findley, El Paso, Texas.
