On a hot June day in 1972, little Dwayne Criswell and several other children went across the road to a neighbor's yard to play. The house was old and there was a well in the yard. Even though the well was old, it was still being used and was covered. The children were curious, and tried to look into the well, and Dwayne fell into the well.
Neighbors, friends and relatives gathered as rescue personnel arrived on the scene. They were able to retrieve his body, but Dwayne lost his life that day.
In addition to his parents, he was survived by his siblings, Mark, Robbie and Russell.
He is buried in Powell Chapel UMC Cemetery, not far from his home.
