As a faithful member of Gospel Water Branch, he was a member of the Male Chorus, Senior Choir and Deacon Board.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII and retired from Augusta National Golf Club after sixty two years as Maintenance and Groundskeeper Supervisor.
Survivors are 4 sons, Cleveland Stokes, James (Delouis)) Stokes, Kent Stokes, all of Augusta, Kenny (Josephine) Stokes, Hephzibah, GA; two daughters, Victoria Hartfield, Augusta and Annie (Anthony) Harris, Evans, GA; sister, Lillie Mae Stitch, Bronx, NY; 22 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
