Mr. E. C. Shelton, an old and highly respected citizen passed away Wednesday night last week at the age of 77 years. He had been bedridden for most of the time for nearly two years.
He was born in Georgia near the Alabama line and remained there until he was about 17 years of age, when he ran away from home and joined the Federal army, with which he remained until the close of the war. He then settled for while in south west Missouri, afterwards moving to Arkansas, where he lived for a short time. Later he moved to Greer County Texas, while that territory was under dispute as to what state it belonged to. After this he remained in west Oklahoma until his death.
Mr. Shelton married his second wife, Mrs. Johnson, who survives him, in 1905.
Only one child blessed this union, now Mrs. Mick, of San Antonio, Texas, who with her husband attended the funeral in an airplane.
There are several step-sons and step-daughters on both sides whose names we did not learn.
The furneral was preached by Rev. Howard at the Baptist church. The remains were laid to rest Friday afternoon in the Gotebo cemetery.

Mr. E. C. Shelton, an old and highly respected citizen passed away Wednesday night last week at the age of 77 years. He had been bedridden for most of the time for nearly two years.
He was born in Georgia near the Alabama line and remained there until he was about 17 years of age, when he ran away from home and joined the Federal army, with which he remained until the close of the war. He then settled for while in south west Missouri, afterwards moving to Arkansas, where he lived for a short time. Later he moved to Greer County Texas, while that territory was under dispute as to what state it belonged to. After this he remained in west Oklahoma until his death.
Mr. Shelton married his second wife, Mrs. Johnson, who survives him, in 1905.
Only one child blessed this union, now Mrs. Mick, of San Antonio, Texas, who with her husband attended the funeral in an airplane.
There are several step-sons and step-daughters on both sides whose names we did not learn.
The furneral was preached by Rev. Howard at the Baptist church. The remains were laid to rest Friday afternoon in the Gotebo cemetery.
