27 March 1885 - "John Weidman, age 66 years, an old citizen of Floyd County, died Thursday evening after an illness of several months. He was a well known farmer and resident on the Paoli Pike two miles from the city. He was esteemed as an idustrious honest man. His funeral takes place 2 o'clock Saturday under the auspices of The Knights and Ladies of Industry, of which he was a member."

"The will of John Whiteman has been probated. He bequeaths all his property to his wife, Mrs. Sarah Jane Whiteman, during her lifetime. At her death it is to be divided among the heirs, except the heirs of Melvina Hartman, deceased wife of George Hartman, they to have no interest in the estate." His wife is appointed executrix. The will is dated December 27, 1884.
