Rachel is the daughter of John Henry Kornegay and Laura Thomas Koonce. She was named after her two grandmothers Rachel Barcher Kornegay and Olivia Gooden Koonce. Born somewhere in Jones County North Carolina on June 4th 1903. Moved to Fallin Creek Lenoir County North Carolina in 1910 at the age of 7. Highest grade completed was the 7th grade.
