"BURNSVILLE - Oscar Shepherd, 78, of Detroit, Mich., died Thursday in a Detroit hospital.
A native of Yancey County and a resident of Michigan for the past 30 years, he was a retired employe of Chrysler Corp.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Tracy Waldrup of Mars Hill and Mrs. Betty Lee Counts of Farwell, Mich.; six sons, Charlie Shepherd of Burnsville, Blaine Shepherd of Petersburgh, Pa., Forrest, Ted, Francis, and Harold Shepherd of Detroit; two sisters, Mrs. Golda Chambers of Mars Hill and Mrs. Sarah Jones of Asheville; a brother, Donald Shepherd of Asheville; 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Prices Creek Union Church. The Revs. Francis Radford and Shelby Beaver will officiate. Burial will be in Blankenship-Arrowood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church for services."
