Lilly's mother was Anna Karolina Nilsdotter (Neilson), born in Sweden. Her first husband and Lilly's father, was Israel August Israelson (1852-1896.) When he passed away she married Olav (Oluf) Richard Sikstrom. They immigrated to the Edensville (Meeting Creek) area in March 1902 with their two sons Ragnar (Dick) and Richard and also her children from her previous marriage. Their names were Eric, August, Alida, Victor, Oscar and Lillie. Two daughters Gunhild and Judith were born on the homestead, in the Stockholm district, close to Edberg. Olav opened a coal strip mine on the banks of creek and provided coal for themselves and their neighbours. In the 1906 Canada Census Lilly was 11 years old. At some point she took the surname of her step-father which was Sikstrom. She married Olaf August Stenlund in 1912.
