Lawrence E. Camfield, 87, of Findlay passed away at 2:05 p.m. Friday (December 6, 2013) in the Decatur Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Findlay Christian Church with Richard Hargrave officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites. Memorials may be made to the Findlay Christian Church or the Johnson University in Knoxville, TN. Arrangements are by Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Findlay.
Lawrence was born July 2, 1926 in Middlesworth the son of Lawrence Ephrem and Florence (Helton) Camfield. He married Wilma B. Cole August 24, 1949 in Bowling Green, MO.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma; children, Sandra Boehm, husband David of Oreana, Mark Camfield, wife Jeanne of Illiopolis, Lindsay Camfield, wife Jill of Shelbyville and Paula Davis, husband Thad of Stonington; grandchildren, Jenny Schorey, April Bunch, Tyler Camfield, Brooke Haller, Nicholas Camfield, Lawrence Camfield, Tori Capps, Heidi Ward, Courtney Nichols and Taylor Davis; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Bennett of Windsor and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Birney Camfield and wife Irene and brother-in-law, Paul Bennett.
Lawrence served in the European Theatre during WW II from 1944 to 1948 as a flight engineer for a C-47 Troop Carrier in the Army Air Force 61st Troop Carrier Squadron. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Masters of Administration. He was a teacher, coach and administrator for Findlay Community Schools beginning in 1952, retiring in 1982 and a Country Companies crop adjustor and training instructor for 18 years. He was a member of the Findlay Christian Church serving as a Deacon and Elder, Findlay Lions Club, Findlay American Legion, and served on the Board of Directors of the Shelby Memorial Hospital and the Shelby County Welfare Services.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family and his poodle, Suzi.
