Obituary
Harry Lee Nettles, age 96, a longtime Clinton resident, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at the Presbyterian Home in Clinton.
He was born in Florence, and was the son of the late Robert Maxey and Lulu Olivia Nettles.
Mr. Nettles was a graduate of Presbyterian College, where he lettered in four sports and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. His love of sports reached beyond college and into the community, where he coached Little League baseball for a number of years. Mr. Nettles worked almost forty years as a superintendent at the C.W. Anderson Hosiery Mill before retiring in 1976. He was also an active member of First Presbyterian Church, serving many years as an elder.
Surviving are four children, Rose Moore Oglesby of Atlanta, Ga., Harry Heyward Nettles and his wife, Nancy, of Spartanburg, Mary McCall Nettles and her husband, Paul Swift, of Rhinebeck, N.Y., and Charles Copeland Nettles and his wife, Gayle, of Norcross, Ga.; six grandchildren, Rhett, Julia and Heyward Nettles, Rob Oglesby and Zachary and Nicole Swift; and four great-grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Oglesby and Heyward and Harrison Nettles.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah Copeland Nettles.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church, Clinton. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Scotsman Club, 503 S. Broad St., Clinton, SC 29325.
