"Private Adams joined Company A, 314th Infantry Regiment on 18 July 1944 and was reported missing in action 26 July 1944.... The Company was in combat against the enemy and moving toward Lessay, France, where they ran into a German mine field in the darkness and sustained many casualties. He has not been seen or heard from since."

Adams was reported missing, and ultimately presumed dead as of 27 July 1945, a year and a day after he was last seen.
