Born in Ridgeway, S.C., he was a retired custodian for Grace United Methodist Church. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include sons, Samuel Able, Ezell Able Jr., Alfred Able and Howard Able, all of Greensboro and Michael Able of Nashville, N.C.; daughters, Dianne A. Wright and Loretta A. Settle, both of Browns Summit; brothers, Taft Able of Columbia, S.C., Harry Able, Wesley Able, Lawrence Able and James Able, all of Ridgeway, S.C.; sisters, Christine Gooding and Bertha Gilyard, both of Charlotte; 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
