Inspirational song writer and singer.∼TORONTO - Olivia Wise — the terminally ill teen who captured the world's heart with a viral video of her singing Katy Perry's Roar — died Monday afternoon.
Family member Jeff Kassel informed the Toronto Sun of the sad news in an e-mail.
"She died peacefully in her home surrounded by the love of her family," he wrote.
Kassel also thanked the media for "helping to generate so many positive comments and well-wishers" and raising awareness of Wise's charitable work at the Liv Wise Fund.
The 16-year-old Toronto girl was diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago after suffering a seizure on vacation.
As her health drained and her breaths grew more shallow, Wise was given time in a recording studio — courtesy of a relative's friend — to sing like a pro.
She picked Roar by Katy Perry.
The song hit more than a million views on YouTube and sparked a heartfelt response from Perry, who told Wise in a video to "keep roaring."
Perry paid tribute to Wise via Twitter after news of her death broke.
