George Washington Eldridge, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at home. He was 83. Born in Somerville, Mass., he resided in Connecticut and Pennsylvania before moving to South River 45 years ago. He was a World War II veteran, having served as a Marine from 1944-1946. Prior to retiring in 1992, Mr. Eldridge was a retail executive for Lechters, Manhattan, N.Y., where he worked for 35 years.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Carol Charlton Eldridge; five daughters, Dale Eldridge of Old Bridge, Shaune Casazza and her husband Michael of Matawan, Julie Black and her husband Stuart of Branchburg, Laurie Eldridge of Denville, and Jane Staud and her husband Dan of Broomall, Pa.; two sons, Patrick Eldridge and his wife Roxana of New City, N.Y., and Thomas Eldridge of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Helen McElmon of Peabody, Mass.; and 10 grandchildren, Isabella and Shayan Eldridge, Joseph, Eileen and Jillian Black, Edward, Benjamin and Elizabeth Staud, and Abigail and David Casazza. Funeral services will be held at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 in the funeral home, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi R.C. Church, South River. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
