Buchanan, John Dix (Maj) (C D) ~ 78, Lydgate, Shelburne County, died August 25, 1993 in Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point.
Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Phillip and Susan (Purdy) Buchanan.
He served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders overseas during the Second World War. He was active in the Boy Scouts in Truro and Bedford; a member of Maritime Travelers Association; the Town council of Lockeport; Kiwanis Club; Masonic Lodge, Bedford; Shelburne Regional Housing Commission; president of CAMR, Windsor; Senior Seacaps, Lockeport and past member on the board of directors of Shelburne Community College.
He is survived by his wife, the former Joyce Firth; three sons, John, Prince George, BC; Richard, Hampton, NB; James A, Moncton, NB; two daughters, W Sue, Harbourville; Linda F, Port Williams; brother, Donald, Truro; sister, Mrs Phyllis Ross, Arthur, Ont; 11 grandchildren; a great grandchild. He was predeceased by three brothers, Russell, Frank, Kenneth.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 2 pm Saturday in St Andrew's United Church, Lockeport, Rev Les Jobb, Rev George France and Rev John Hammond officiating. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to any charity. Arrangements are under the direction of H M Huskilson's Funeral Home, Lockeport.
