Born March 30, 1934 in Danville, he was the son of the late Thomas Bennett Harris and Ella White Harris. Mr. Harris was a veteran of the United States Army, and attended Schoolfield Baptist Church. He retired from the City of Danville where he was employed in the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Survivors include his daughter: Sandra Harris of Danville; one granddaughter: Rebecca Harris Layne (Jimmy) of Hurt, VA; great-grandchildren: James Layne and Madeline Layne of Hurt; step-sons: George Steven Lloyd of Fair Hope, Alabama and John Daniel Lloyd of Oriental, NC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers: Phillip Harris, Roy T. Harris, and Richard Harris; two sisters: Evelyn Harris Burrell and Virginia Harris Thurman.
Graveside funeral services officiated by Father Anthony Marques, with military honors by the American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard, will be held Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, 160 Howeland Circle, Danville.
