Sigismund Falkenstein joined the Reichswehr on 01-10-1922, in the 16th Horse Regiment, as a Fähnrich, age 19. At the beginning of World War II, he is Commander of the Kampfgeschwader 27 "Boelcke". He is assigned to Oberst and Chief of the General Staff of the X Luftwaffe Corps on 01-04-1942. From 01-05-1943 to 31-10-1943 he is the Chief in the General Staff of Luftwaffe Command "Südost" and promoted to Major General on 01-10-1943. Following the post of General Staff Chief of the Air Fleet "Mitte" on 01-11-1943 and on 09-02-1944 Chief of Air Fleet "Reich". His last command is commander of the 3rd Luftwaffe Division, he succeeded General Robert Pistorius who died in action age 48, on 27-06-1944 near Vilebsk, USSR and lands in Soviet captivity on 08-05-1945. First released on 10-10-1945 by the intervention of Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, he joined the new Bundeswehr Luftwaffe as a Brigade General after the war and retired on 30-09-1962. Living in Bückeburg, Sigismund Falkenstein died at the age of 68, on 02-06-1972.
