Obituary

Nathan C. Herring died peacefully, with his family present, under Hospice care, February 2, 2013 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Andrews, South Carolina, the son of the late Henry Dunham and Hannah Ballenberger Herring. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Rossie Anderson Herring and also by his brother, Dunham and his sister, Virginia H. von Lehe.

Nathan served as a First Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in the Pacific, Luzon Islands in the Philippines. He attended Wofford College and the University of South Carolina.

He is survived by his children, Clark Herring and wife Marcia, Joseph Herring and Theresa Oakley, Dean Bowen and husband Mike, Phyllis Oots and Joe Oots and grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Herring, Nathan Herring III and wife, Shannon, Briana Biggerstaff and husband Dustin, Virginia Mitchell and husband Jordan, Matthew Bowen, Megan Oots and Taylor Oots.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1416 Market Street, Wilmington, NC, conducted by Rev. Robert H. Lapp. A reception will follow at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
