Roma B. Hughes, 82, passed away November 2, 2013, at her home. She was born February 19, 1931 in North Carolina to the late Clinton and Polly Barnett. Survivors include her loving daughter, Liz Copenhaver and husband Scott; son, Robert Hughes; grandson, Robert Smith and wife Melissa; grandson, Forrest Hughes; great grandson, Gavin; brother, Robert Barnett; sister, Sharon Ericson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Larry Hughes; sister, Doris Sugg; and grandson, Matthew. She was a board member for Friends of the Court and a volunteer in the juvenile court system. A life-long Democrat, she was a recipient of the Liberty Bell Award in Virginia Beach. The visitation will be held Monday, November 4, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bayside Chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow services at Colonial Grove Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
