Raymond Elwood Balser, Jr., 67, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013.

Mr. Balser was born October 23, 1946 in Harrisonburg and was the son of Hester Ruth Olimski Balser of Harrisonburg, and the late Raymond Elwood Balser, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Hummel.

Raymond was a graduate of Elkton High School and was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton. He was employed with General Electric in Waynesboro and retired from Merck & Company as chemical operator in January of 2010. Since retirement, he was active at the Elkton Community Center and helped deliver Meals On Wheels for the E.A.U.S. He enjoyed his family very much, and especially his granddaughter.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Barbara "Bobbie" Lam Balser; his daughter, Jodi B. Hill of Chesapeake ; his brother, Sam Balser and wife, Linda of Timberville; his sisters, Mary Rinker of Bridgewater, Laura Housden of Timberville; his beloved granddaughter, Isabella Brianne Hill; numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rev. David Vaughan will conduct a memorial service 12:00 noon Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton. The interment will precede the service at 11am at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
