FLORENCE — Robert Benn DeArman Sr., 80, a retired justice of the peace, died on Oct. 20,
2013.

Mr. DeArman was born on April 29, 1933, along with twin sister Freddia Lynn, in Lamesa, Texas, to John A. and Myrtle Gandy DeArman. He graduated from high school in Rising Star, Texas, in 1950 and enlisted in the Navy, serving in the Korean War. He returned home in 1954, honorably discharged and a decorated serviceman. After his time overseas he began a long career in law enforcement. His first job was as a security officer for a security business with his three brothers. He then became an officer with the Arizona Highway Patrol.

It was during that time he met the love of his life, his beautiful Patricia, who was working at a café in the area he patrolled. They were married on March 4, 1956, and raised four children, Elizabeth, Robert, Terri and Clint. Their family also included 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with another expected.

His last position was serving as justice of the peace. He was elected to three terms but retired during the last one for health reasons. He had wonderful friends and was loved and respected by many. He was known for his compassion and his love for people as well as his ability to tell a great story. He touched many lives.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years; a grandson, Robert B. DeArman III; three brothers, John Albert, Clint and Coy; and four sisters, Gladys, Opal, Florence and Freddia.

Visitation will be at Heritage Florence Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m., with rosary recited at 7. Funeral Mass will be celebrated
Saturday at Assumption Catholic Church, with the eulogy at 10 a.m. and Mass at 11. Burial will be in Heritage Valley Memorial Park in Coolidge.
