Jesse James Ledford, 88, of Chiefland, died March 11, 2012.

He was born Oct. 8, 1923 in Jamestown, Tenn, to James and Nicie Ledford.

He moved to Chiefland in 1992 from Largo. He was of the Southern Baptist faith and was a church member of Concord Baptist Church. He worked many years as a developer.

He was a member of the Shriners in Hillsborough County, AMVETS Post 422 in Chiefland. He enjoyed being outdoors landscaping, traveling and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Vernelle Ledford; son, Steve (Barbara) Ledford; daughters, Marcia (Ron) Wills, Nancy (John) McNeilly; brother, Clarence (Liz) Ledford; sisters, Betty (Ira) Matthews, Billie Piper; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Ledford.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 17 at 11 a.m. one hour prior to the service, which will begin at noon at Concord Baptist Church with the Rev. Jamie Brock officiating. Interment will follow at Chiefland Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Haven Hospice.

Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home-Chiefland.
