Pvt., Co. G, 7 Ohio InfantryWilliam does not appear in pre-war U.S. Censuses but most of Company G, 7th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in which he enlisted June 20, 1861, was recruited in Portage County. He was wounded at the Battle of Port Republic, Virginia which was fought, June 9, 1862 but died of wounds at Cliffbum, aka Cliffburn, aka Cliffbourne Army General Hospital in Washington, D.C. He has no pension file. His name was inscribed as "Wm W. Rogers" on the monument of the 7th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, located at Woodland Cemetery, 6901 Woodland Ave., Cleveland, Ohio.
