Private First Class Sullivan was a member Company A, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on November 29, 1950 and died of those wounds on December 1, 1950. His remains were not recovered.
