Civil War - Enlisted 14 December 1861 at Owosso, Shiawassee County, Michigan; mustered in 7 January 1862, Company E, Michigan 14th Volunteer Infantry Regiment as a Private; mustered out 14 September 1862 at Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana.

Son of Rufus and Hilda. First wife was Mary Ann. He was widowed with five children. The children stayed in Owosso, Shiawassee County, Michigan with his sister and parents during the war. Lived near Burdickville, Leelanau County, Michigan and was a cooper (barrel and/or wheel maker).
