Jewel was born May 13, 1931, in Corbin, Kentucky, to parents, David and Sarah Mae (Smith) Garland. She married Eugene "Gene" Lee Emrick on Aug. 12, 1950, in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. He asked her out for a Thursday and Friday night, she said she was busy; so, he said, "You wanna get married then on Saturday?" She responded, "Yes!" and they did.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997.
Survivors include five sons, Leonard Eugene Garland, Dennis James Emrick, Carl Blaine Emrick, Loren Leondis Emrick and Eric Aaron Emrick; four daughters, Rosanna Lee Honts, Sandra Sue Honts, Kathy Teresa Smith and Lisa Kay Butler; a brother, Calvin Van Garland; a sister, Faye Adams; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was a homemaker and a Christian.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997.
