By 1860, John Redick moved with his family and grandmother, Catherine Redick, to Rochester, Andrew County, Missouri. John served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. By 1870, John Harris Redick, his parents, and his remaining brothers and sisters, moved to Grayson County, Texas. John's brother, Napoleon, later settled in Kansas.

The family operated a farm, first renting, then, owning the land that encompasses from Texoma Parkway and Highway 82, in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas, to Texoma Parkway/Armstrong Avenue and Iron Ore Creek in Denison. The family grew fruits, vegetables, and cotton and were productive and successful farmers.

Whats earth to us,
without thee
Darkeness and dispare alone.
When with sighes
we seek to find thee.
This tomb proclaims,
