Michael, the son of Patrick J. Dalton and Eileen M. Dalton, the brother of sisters Kathy and Debbie Dalton and brother of Tim Dalton of Kansas City MO, and brother Pat and sister Mary M. Lecktieg also of Kansas City MO enlisted in the US Marine Corps on September 5 1967 in Kansas City MO. He arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to Company F, 2d Battalion, 27th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
While on patrol northeast of Dong Tien (2) in the Dien Ban District of Quang Nam Province the Marines were hit with a volley of rifle fire from a group of VC. PFC Dalton was hit and killed by several rounds of the enemy gun shots.
