Mr. Donald Minchew, 66, died Tuesday morning (October 8, 2013) at Kindred Hospital of North Florida in Green Cove Springs FL following an extended illness.

He was a native of Bacon County and a son to the late Ottis Emory Minchew and Estelle Mixon Minchew

He lived his early life in the Forks of The Hurricane before making his home in Brantley County for the past 43 years. He retired in 1995 as an electrician with the CSX Railroad after 25 years of service. He also was the owner of Don's Lock Repair for many years and helped in maintaining communication towers, assembling and disassembling communication towers. He was a HAM Radio operator known as AE4PO. He had served as a member of the Sheriff's Posse under Sheriff Cordell Wainright, and was a long-time member of the Calvary Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was a member of the 1965 graduating class of Ware County High School and served with the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War. He was a member of the Waycross Chapter 1070 of the Viet Nam Veterans.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary Thornton Minchew of Brantley County
four children,
Ronald Howell (wife Dee) of Stanwood WA,
Lisa Chancey (husband David) of Brantley County,
Steve Minchew (wife Marcia) of Tabor City NC, and
Perry Minchew of Charleston SC;

twelve grandchildren,
Cheraya Howell, Halden Howell (wife Katie), Kyle Dean Howell, Brianna Walther (husband Eric), Craig Jr. Shishido, Tommy Chancey, Bryan Chancey (wife Allison), Rebecca Wall (husband Aaron), Kevin Thompkins, Brandon Thompkins, Madison Marlowe, Bade Minchew, Kessler Minchew, and Berry Lawton Chancey;
three great grandchildren,
Payton Erickson, Leanna Howell, and Maddie Wall,
several cousins and other relatives.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Waycross Chapter 1070 of the Viet Nam Veterans, P.O. Box 87, Waycross, GA 31516.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday (October 11, 2013) at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with burial in the Thomas Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday at Music Funeral Home.

Members of the Waycross Chapter 1070 of the Viet Nam Veterans, area HAM Radio Operators and members of the 1965 graduating class of Ware County High School are asked to gather at the church at 10:40 AM Friday to serve as honorary pallbearers.
