In 1945 he became the chief's driver, and promoted to Captain in 1951, holding that rank until his retirement in 1971. He graduated from the Northwest Firefighting School at the University of Minnesota, and attended the Fire Department Instructor's conference in Memphis, Tenn., during his texture as a fireman. Mr. Kettelkamp, who was an active outdoorsman, was active in softball circles in the 1930s. He held the office if treasurer of the Rochester Municipal Credit Union for 35 years and had been a member of the First Presbyterian church since 1930.
He married Lola Bateman on Sept. 3, 1929, in Frankford, Minn., near Spring Valley. Mrs. Kettelkamp survives. Survivors also include a son, Gerald of North Glen, Colorado.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Houdek of Rochester; eight Grandchildren; two sisters, Berniece and Mrs. Russell (Mary) Cook, both of Wheaton, Ill.; and three brothers, Ronald of Granada Hills., Calif., Mike of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Barney of Peoria, Ill. He was proceeded in death by a son, two daughters, a grandson, a brother and a sister.
