MOUNT OLIVE, NC--Annie Royal Kornegay Sutton of 511 West Main Street, Mount Olive, died June 22, 2000.
Born August 13, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Kenan Kornegay and Hattie Royal Kornegay. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, Norwood Dallas Sutton, and her brother, John Royal Kornegay.
For 32 years, Mrs. Sutton was a second grade teacher with the Wayne County Schools. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive and its United Methodist Women.
A life-long resident of Mount Olive, she was active in the Mount Olive and Goldsboro bridge clubs, the Twentieth Century Book Club of Mount Olive, Wayne County Democratic Women, Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society Magna Charta Dames
and a board member of Wayne County American Cancer Society, Charles B. Aycock Historical Site and Wayne County Historical Society.
She is survived by three great-granddaughters, Heather, Caroline and Victoria; four grandchildren, Ann May Souza, Catherine Louise May, Norwood Bradley Sutton and Angela Kornegay Sutton; and two children, Hattie Royal Sutton and husband, Vann May, of Chattanooga, TN, and Norwood Dallas Sutton and wife, Janet B. Sutton, of New Bern.
A private celebration of her life was held on Saturday, June 24, 2000, at 4 p.m. in the family plot in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. The Reverend James Weaver officiated. Arrangements were by Tyndall Funeral Home, Mount Olive, NC.
