David Eaton wed Rebecca Cora Johnson (Daughter of John D Johnson & Catherine Fulton Johnson of Pennsylvania), on 4 April 1860.
The family settled in Payson, Illinois, and raised their five children: Kathryn (1861 - 1926), John (1863 - 1899), Nellie (1864 - 1943), Anna (1866 - 1940), and Albert Avise Eaton (1872 - 1930.)
David Avise Eaton sold "hardware and tinware" according to a local newspaper article written at the time of his death. He died suddenly, 28 September 1887, while stopping home for lunch one day.
David Avise Eaton was a member of Burton lodge, No. 642, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. They published a "tribute" to him in the Quincy Whig on 20 October, 1887.
To wit: "Brother Eaton was a man of warm heart, a steadfast friend, a zealous worker for the good of the community in which he lived as a citizen, popular as a man, and of such manners and spirit that he won a host of friends."
David Avise Eaton was buried with A.O.U.W. and I.O.O.F. in attendance. One is a Masonic lodge and one is the International Order of Odd Fellows.
David Avise Eaton rests in New Payson Cemetery, (Payson, Adams county, Illinois), alongside his wife, Rebecca.
